'Business Is Blooming' Hanging Basket Partnership Scheme
Give your business the extra wow factor this summer with a North Yorkshire Council subsidised hanging basket.
Our hanging baskets are renowned for their beauty and providing colour in the towns across the district.
The overall cost of growing and maintaining these baskets is subsidised by the council and the scheme is supported each year by business improvement district colleagues, chamber of trade and ‘In Bloom’ groups in recognition of the economic and community benefits attractive town centres bring to our businesses, residents and visitors.
Due to access and parking restrictions it is only possible to erect hanging baskets in specific locations.

The cost of the hanging baskets is subsidised by North Yorkshire Council and includes growing, planting and the putting up and taking down of the baskets as well as the watering and maintenance throughout the time they are up.
The colour scheme for our floral displays changes each year and may be themed to specific national events but will always be bright and cheerful.
Baskets will start to be displayed on Monday 20 May 2024. Watering stops in early/mid-September before the baskets being taken down in late September or early October.
In 2024 the subsidised cost is;-
Hanging basket only £93.00 (zero VAT)
Bracket, bracket installation and hanging basket £175.00 (including VAT on bracket only)
It is essential that you confirm your hanging basket requirements no later than Thursday 29th February 2024 to ensure that we have enough plants, as these are grown from seed at our nursery.
Hanging Baskets
We provide self-watering hanging baskets complete with substantial chains and ring. The baskets are 530mm diameter x 240mm deep, once planted, and the reservoir filled with 10 litres of water weighs approximately 30kg. There is a limited number of hanging baskets available per town centre. The required donation for a subsidised hanging basket is £93.00 towards the full price of £152.00.
Watering
Hanging baskets will generally be watered 2-3 times a week and includes horticultural feed to ensure the plants thrive and look their best. When choosing a location please consider water drips from the baskets. We will aim to water between 5.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, although this may vary. We water over 600 hanging baskets and planters across the Harrogate district so it is not possible to give an exact day or time.
Bracket Specification
Businesses that have not previously purchased a hanging basket through the North Yorkshire Council subsidised scheme must select the 'Bracket and Basket' package. Our contracted blacksmith will create a bespoke bracket and install on site.
All brackets are inspected annually by our contractor to ensure they meet the necessary health and safety regulations to ensure the bracket is sufficiently robust and safe to use on a public highway. Once the health and safety inspection is complete any repairs needed will be quoted to the business as an additional cost.
